I’ve just finished a new documentary about the rarely reported struggle for self-determination being fought by the indigenous Sahrawi people of Western Sahara.
La Badil (which translates as ‘no other choice’) was filmed undercover on the eve of the second anniversary of the 2010 uprisings there.
In October 2010, over 15,000 Sahrawis had descended on the desert but their peaceful protest was brutally quashed by the Moroccan security forces, leaving four civilians and eleven police dead. To this day the Moroccan security forces are continuing their crackdown against civilians.
