Başlangıç (The Beginning) tells the story of the anti-government protests that gripped Turkey in the summer of 2013.

What began as an occupation of a central Istanbul park by environmental protesters angry at plans to develop it into a shopping centre, quickly developed into nationwide protests against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his increasingly conservative Islamic policies. The protests were to become the most challenging events in Erdoğan’s ten-year term and the most significant nationwide disquiet in decades.
