Başlangıç (The Beginning) tells the story of the wave of anti-government protests that gripped Turkey from May to July 2013.

What began as an occupation of a central Istanbul park by environmental protesters angry at plans to develop it into a shopping centre, quickly developed into nationwide protests against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his increasingly conservative Islamic policies. The protests were to become the most challenging events in Erdoğan’s ten-year term and the most significant nationwide disquiet in decades.
